FAQ's
How do I choose the right general contractor for my project?
- Define Your Project Needs: Start by clarifying what you want—whether it’s a home renovation, new construction, or a smaller job. Knowing your scope, budget, and timeline helps you find a contractor with the right experience.
- Check Qualifications and Credentials: Look for a licensed and insured contractor. Licensing requirements vary by location, so verify what’s needed in your area. Insurance (general liability and workers’ comp) protects you from potential issues during the project.
- Ask for References and Reviews:A good contractor should provide references from past clients. Contact them to ask about the contractor’s reliability, communication, and quality of work. Online reviews on platforms like Google or Yelp can also give you a broader picture.
- Evaluate Experience and Specialization: Pick someone with a track record in projects like yours. A contractor who’s built custom homes might not be the best fit for a small bathroom remodel, for example. Ask to see a portfolio of completed work.
What’s the difference between a general contractor and a subcontractor?
General Contractor (GC): The general contractor is the main person or company overseeing the entire project. They’re hired directly by the client (you) and are responsible for managing everything from start to finish. This includes planning, coordinating, and supervising the work, hiring subcontractors, securing permits, ordering materials, and ensuring the project stays on budget and schedule. Think of them as the project’s quarterback—they don’t do all the hands-on work but make sure it all comes together.
Subcontractor: A subcontractor is a specialist brought in by the general contractor to handle specific tasks. They focus on areas like plumbing, electrical work, roofing, or drywall—things that require particular skills or certifications. Subs work under the direction of the general contractor, not the client directly, and they’re accountable to the GC for their part of the job. They’re the players on the field executing their specialized roles.
How much does hiring a general contractor cost?
We are very transparent with our pricing. But the pricing varies by project because we don't charge the same for a small bathroom renovation as we do for a custom home. We would love the opportunity to discuss your project so we can give you a solid quote on what you are looking to have completed.
